‘Pitch Tent: Business’ Wrap-Up

Pitch Tent: Business’ category finalists captured the imagination of a variety of investors and are on track to collectively raise £10m+

With the Blue Earth Summit in full flight, four entrepreneurial finalists, painstakingly whittled down from a cohort of 250 submissions, took to the stage to share their purpose-led ventures with prospective investors. ‘The Pitch Tent: Business’ category, supported by headline sponsors Natwest, Seedrs and Stripe, is the very foundation of the Blue Earth Summit ethos. Sitting firmly at the beating heart of the event, it’s where impact becomes measurable and aspiring entrepreneurs and impact-led ventures are matched with world class investors.

Presented by Wavelength Ventures, ‘The Pitch Tent: Business’ category saw over 250 founders apply for the chance to live-pitch, Dragon’s Den style, to 30 of the world’s best impact funds for millions of pounds of investment. Given the format of the business category, Wavelength Ventures founder, Guy Hayler, feels confident that it will have successfully facilitated over £10m of investment.

The business finalists in this year’s pitch tent have really set a new precedent, and have made us, as founders, proud. They represent a diverse selection of businesses in very different stages of their journeys, but all share the collective ability to positively disrupt their markets. With interest from investors and conversations in action, I’m excited to see what the future holds for these four progressive brands who are already making waves in their respective industries.’

Pitching live on stage, Bundlee led the charge, with founder Eve Kendleh sharing a compelling pitch for the UK’s first baby clothing rental subscription, seeing parents renting their child’s wardrobe and swapping outgrown clothes for the next size up.

Continuing the sustainable thread was Alec Mills, presenting DAME, the brand on a mission to make periods positive for people and the planet, with Alec presenting a hard-hitting and inspirational pitch to a retail and health-focused panel.

Following on was Gianfranco Bachtold, founder of Kvatt, a business who are building the tech to help customers power circularity and create unique delivery experiences by developing protective and reusable packaging solutions.

Finally, Shackleton, founded by Martin Brooks and Ian Holdcroft, closed proceedings with their pioneering adventure and apparel proposition, building on the values of polar titan, Sir Ernest Shackleton, and bringing our love of adventure onto the stage.

The curtain close is only the start of the conversation, with all four propositions earning response and interest from investors. The momentum is building, with DAME getting ready to launch their crowdfunding campaign next week – You can find out more and pre register here.

“I really enjoyed attending the Blue Earth Summit. It was a very well organised event and the calibre of founders and investors was very high. I will definitely attend again next year as we continue to search for investments in opportunities that can help reverse climate change.” James Pringle, Founder, Pringle Capital.

Beyond the four finalists on the Forum stage, with the sheer volume and quality of submissions, the Blue Earth Summit opened the conversation to 8 other businesses. Live on the Q&A stage, Wavelength Ventures Senior Investment Manager, Tom Jordan, brought out the highlights from all 8 entrepreneurs, in front of a full audience amidst a bustling Propyard venue. All 12 ventures across 2 stages captured the imagination of a variety of investors in keen anticipation of the next generation of high growth businesses.

“What an absolute pleasure it was to welcome an additional 8 businesses to pitch at the Blue Earth Summit.  Their business stories and passion to positively change the world were inspiring; we had everything from health and fitness apps, to sustainable sex brands and everything in between. The WLV team were blown away by the quality of the applications and their ability to drive real impact in the world – with £100Ks already being committed by the investors at the Summit. A very BIG thank you to all the founders that applied.” Tom Jordan, Senior Investment Manager, Wavelength Ventures.

Blue Earth Summit will be returning to Bristol in 2023. With a focus on collaboration, change and action, it’s the ‘must attend’ Summit for purpose-led business. Buy tickets now.
