Founded in 2021 by Daria Stepanova and Errico Armandillo, AIRMO was born from a shared vision to revolutionise how the world measures and manages greenhouse gas emissions. Despite the availability of GHG sensors and research, the founders identified a critical gap: no existing instruments could monitor emissions from space with the speed, granularity, and precision required for effective climate governance.
Their collaboration began within a multi-party space industry consortium, where Daria, a former CTO at German Orbital Systems, and Errico, a European Space Agency veteran specialising in LiDAR systems, combined expertise in satellite deployment and optical instrumentation. Together, they saw the potential to miniaturise and commercialise space-based LiDAR for accurate, global emissions tracking.
AIRMO’s mission is to empower industries, governments, and regulators with independent, actionable insights to accelerate climate action. Its vision is a transparent, data-driven world where space technology enables accountability and drives the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future.
