Biophilica

Biomaterials

Grow

Founded in London by designer Mira Nameth and strategist Jordan Berkowitz, Biophilica was built on a simple but radical principle: that materials should work with nature, not against it. The idea began when Mira, during her MA at the Royal College of Art, started experimenting with green waste to develop early prototypes of what would become Treekind®, a sustainable leather alternative made entirely from plant matter. The birth of her daughter intensified her commitment to creating a better world for future generations, while Jordan brought expertise from Google and Ogilvy, helping to shape Biophilica’s commercial and growth strategy.

Together with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and designers, they are pioneering a new materials economy—one where industries transition away from fossil-based resources toward renewable, circular systems.

Biophilica’s mission is to replace fossil fuel–based materials with bio-based, high-performance alternatives that support global decarbonisation and circularity. Its vision is a world where every product, from fashion to packaging to home goods, restores ecosystems rather than depleting them, proving that sustainability and performance can thrive side by side.
