Kumo was founded by a team uniting deep experience in finance, technology, and climate innovation. After more than a decade in the financial sector, the founder recognised how inefficiency, manual processes, and lack of transparency limited access to capital, especially for emerging climate solutions. Having worked on sustainability-linked bonds (SLBs) and use-of-proceeds (UOP) instruments, they saw how the same data-driven infrastructure that powered capital markets could be applied to accelerate climate finance.
That conviction was strengthened after founding an environmental education company, helping corporates understand and act on climate risk, and later while raising private capital for scalable climate ventures within a major bank. When institutional priorities shifted away from impact-focused deals, the opportunity became clear: create the platform that could connect global capital directly to verifiable climate outcomes.
Joining forces with CEO Robin Klemens, who brings leadership experience from BMW and co-chairs Hyperledger’s carbon accounting and trading initiatives, Kumo was born. Together, they are designing the data and legal infrastructure that gives investors the confidence to fund high-integrity carbon projects at scale.
Kumo’s mission is to unlock institutional capital for climate action by building the financial infrastructure of the carbon market. Its vision is to make carbon a multi-trillion-dollar asset class, a foundational pillar of institutional portfolios that drives meaningful, measurable progress toward a net zero global economy.
