Speaker Bio

Lee Schofield is RSPB Senior Site Manager at Haweswater in the Lake District National Park, where in partnership with landowner and water company, United Utilities, he oversees an ambitious programme of habitat restoration at a landscape scale. The project has restored rivers, floodplains, hay meadows, bogs and woodlands and seen the recovery of Atlantic salmon, red grouse, tree pipits and a suite of other specialist upland species. Lee’s book, Wild Fell, published by Penguin in 2022, chronicles a decade of work at Haweswater, and gives an honest account of the political and personal challenges involved with delivering nature conservation in the often-contested landscape of the English uplands.
