Rhizocore Technologies Raises £4.5M to Scale Fungal Forestry Innovation

We’re proud to share that Rhizocore Technologies, a 2025 BE100 company, has secured a £4.5 million investment round to accelerate the scale-up of its pioneering fungal biotechnology and expand its impact across forestry, land restoration and global ecosystem regeneration.

The round was led by The First Thirty, with participation from customers including Grosvenor, as well as Scottish Enterprise, Old College Capital (University of Edinburgh), Sand River, Generation-Re, Kibo Ventures, and John Thomson. Their backing underscores a fast-growing recognition: restoring forest biology is essential to building climate-resilient landscapes.

Rebuilding the Biology That Makes Forests Thrive

Rhizocore’s breakthrough product, RhizoPellets™, introduces locally adapted ectomycorrhizal fungi to young trees, boosting nutrient uptake, water absorption, survival and growth.
Across more than 100 active field sites, results have been extraordinary:

  • 97% survival vs. 78% untreated — Forestry and Land Scotland

  • 23% faster growth in Sitka spruce on former pasture

  • 13× growth increase in birch — Trees for Life

This approach helps foresters, landowners and restoration teams establish healthier, faster-growing and more resilient forests, even on challenging terrains such as reclaimed mining land and high-altitude landscapes.

Meeting Surging Demand

Following rapid market adoption, Rhizocore’s production capacity is already fully booked for the current planting season.
The new £4.5m investment will enable the company to:

  • Expand its Scottish production facility.

  • Advance applications in soil and water health

  • Grow its multi-year order book across Europe

  • Begin scaling into North America, where 1.4 billion trees are planted annually

  • Continue building one of the world’s largest living fungal libraries

This marks a major step forward in the company’s mission to reconnect forests with the fungi that help them flourish.

A Huge Moment for a BE100 Company

Rhizocore joined our 2025 BE100 cohort as one of the companies shaping the future of climate-positive innovation.
Their latest milestone is a powerful validation of what we believe at Blue Earth:

Nature-based innovation can scale.
It can deliver real returns.
And it can accelerate ecological restoration at speed.

We’re excited to watch Rhizocore enter its next chapter, expanding internationally, scaling impact, and continuing to transform the way the world restores forests.
