Anthony Owosekun
Founder and CEO
EMPOCA
Anthony Owosekun is the Founder and CEO of EMPOCA, a pioneering NGO based in Berlin dedicated to connecting Black youth with the transformative power of nature.
As a passionate nature enthusiast, experiential educator, and social worker, Anthony has witnessed firsthand the profound impact that outdoor experiences can have on struggling students. Yet, he also noticed a glaring lack of diversity in these spaces—a disparity that resonated deeply with him. Recognising the untapped potential of nature to inspire and heal, Anthony was driven to address this imbalance and create new opportunities for Black children and teenagers.
Inspired by this vision, Anthony founded EMPOCA in 2019 with a mission that is both simple and revolutionary: to empower Black youth across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland through immersive outdoor experiences. Under his leadership, EMPOCA has grown into a vibrant community of environmental educators and nature enthusiasts, establishing the only outdoor programmes in Europe specifically for young Black people.
Anthony's work is not merely about outdoor adventures; it's about fostering resilience, self-confidence, and a sense of belonging in the natural world. His innovative approach is reshaping the way we think about diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the great outdoors.
