Why is Marketing the Last Area in Business to Develop a Solid Net Zero Strategy?

From our mobile phones to the evening news to the passing conversations we each have in our daily lives, it is difficult to escape the ubiquitous and immense threat of planetary climate change. Whilst brands around the world are slowly but surely waking up to the reality of the crisis, a small but steadfast group of innovative companies are going above and beyond in service of real change.

Meet Nuevo, our latest BES ‘22 partner who are a purpose-driven production agency bridging the gap between unrestricted creativity and an all too vital approach to sustainability.

With such an extreme shift in global temperatures over the last decade alone, Nuevo refuses to concede that a target of net zero is enough. Instead, they have made it their mission to not only neutralise their emissions but remove ten times the amount of carbon from the world’s atmosphere as they put in.

The marketing industry is one of the last business stalwarts to develop an authentic and adequate approach to sustainability. The digital ecosystem attached to the field currently contributes to more than 3.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions and is growing at a rate of 6% a year, a trajectory more pronounced than civil aviation.

At home, the UK Advertising Agency produces more than 84,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, or the equivalent to the annual output of 15,500 people. So what’s being done?

Nuevo exists to work with brands to reach a true net zero across their entire marketing lifecycle. They’re currently developing a global risk app to help their clients measure, track and reduce their carbon footprints on an enormous scale, enabling brands to limit their environmental impact all the way from production to distribution. It’s simple; measure, reduce, maintain.

Measure: Using an innovative tracking tool, Nuevo offers major businesses such as Canada Goose and EY the ability to measure their CO2 emissions. As founder, Jax Davey, puts it, ‘you have to know what you are fighting before you can fight it’.

Reduce: There are no quick fixes when it comes to sustainability. Working together with clients for the long run, Nuevo offers their keen expertise to help develop an environmental strategy that works for everyone.

Maintain: There’s no sense in short-term gains. Nuevo gets you to true net zero, and allows brands to hone the tools required to keep you there.

In the Spotlight

Joining us as part of the summit is Nuevo’s founder and CEO, Jax Davey, who will be delivering his talk on ‘Why Creativity Should Not Kill the Planet’ on Day 1.

After leaving the Royal Marines in 2017, Jax’s first soiree into the production sphere came with the formation of the company, Rolling Rogues, a creative agency that specialised in remote filming locations. Just two years later, aged 25, the company was sold to the behemoth Berkshire Hathaway.

With his passions still deeply affixed to the creative world, Jax’s second offering is seeking to change the landscape for the better. Now in its third year, Nuevo boasts a range of awesome client collaborations, delivers brilliant work and does so in a way that is both planet and people positive.

Make sure to hear all about Nuevo, Jax and their mission at this year’s summit. Book your tickets here.
