MarinaTex

Sustainable Materials

Start

Founded by Lucy Hughes while studying Product Design at the University of Sussex, MarinaTex began as a student project exploring circular materials and the hidden potential of natural polymers. Inspired by the abundance of seafood waste and seaweed, Lucy developed a prototype bioplastic that went on to win the National and International James Dyson Award, propelling MarinaTex from concept to company.

Driven by a mission to eliminate plastic pollution, the MarinaTex team combines green chemistry, material science, and design innovation to create sustainable packaging solutions that perform like plastic but return safely to nature. Their compostable materials are designed to replace problematic single-use plastics across industries, turning waste into a regenerative resource. Guided by the belief that “materials should work with the planet, not against it,” MarinaTex is redefining how packaging is made, and how it returns to the earth.
