Low Carbon Materials
Scale
Founded by Dr. Natasha Boulding, Dr. Phil Buckley, and Scott Bush as Durham University’s first spin-out, Low Carbon Materials is transforming how the world builds by reimagining the materials that shape our infrastructure. Recognising that concrete accounts for 8% of global carbon emissions, the company created OSTO®, a low-carbon aggregate that significantly cuts emissions in concrete production, and ACLA®, a road material that permanently locks away CO₂ from the atmosphere.
Nominated as a finalist for Prince William’s Earthshot Prize and recognised by Forbes 30 Under 30, Low Carbon Materials has quickly become a leader in sustainable construction innovation. Its mission is clear — to decarbonise the built environment through scalable, science-driven materials that turn waste and carbon into vital resources for a more sustainable planet.
