RAFT Energy began in a humble home experiment: our CEO, Ben Pluke, invented ActiCH4R™ using a self-made anaerobic digester fed with manure from his own chickens. The results were so promising that he quickly moved the product into formal R&D. He was joined by Alex van Klaveren, our CRO, who brings extensive experience in scaling start-ups; Karl Ahmed, an expert in the highest-quality activated biochar, the foundation of ActiCH4R; and Dr. Ian Lim, our Head of Research, a chemical engineer and anaerobic digestion specialist who ensures our innovations are grounded in rigorous science.
Together, the founding team combines hands-on innovation, deep technical expertise, and start-up experience. They are motivated by the belief that biogas can serve as a “big green battery,” creating local energy independence, advancing the circular economy, and turning waste into valuable renewable energy - a solution that benefits both people and the planet.
