Public space is where climate risk, inequality and everyday life become physical. Professor Ed Wall studies who gets to shape it and whose needs are designed out. A landscape architect, urbanist and Professor of Cities and Landscapes at the University of Greenwich, he leads the Centre for Spatial and Digital Ecologies. His research and design practice explore urban ecologies, landscape processes and spatial justice. Ed’s books include Architecture for Warfare and Contesting Public Spaces, alongside edited collections on landscape agency, citizenship and collective futures. He is also a Visiting Professor at Politecnico di Milano and has held visiting positions at Harvard Graduate School of Design and TU Wien. Through teaching, writing and collaborative work on cities, tidal systems and coastal landscapes, Ed treats design not as decoration, but as a political tool for deciding how people live together under changing conditions.
