Birdwatching was never only about birds for Nadeem Perera. It was a way back into nature, community and himself. In 2020, he co-founded Flock Together with Ollie Olanipekun to make the outdoors more welcoming for people of colour. The collective connects birding with mental wellbeing, belonging and environmental stewardship, transforming a traditionally exclusive pastime into a social movement. Nadeem is also a wildlife presenter, author and activist, with appearances on Springwatch, Winterwatch, The One Show and CBBC, and serves as an RSPB ambassador. Alongside conservation and media work, he continues to support young people through community sport. He co-authored Outsiders, a memoir-manifesto about reconnecting with the natural world, and published the illustrated children’s book What Makes a Bird? in 2026. Nadeem makes wildlife knowledge accessible, social and joyful.
