Backing the Businesses Building the Future

Segura Water, RAFT Energy and Low Carbon Materials announced as the first recipients of investment from the BE100 Fund as Blue Earth opens early registration for BE100 2026.

“The future economy is already being built, and the founders leading it need more than visibility. They need capital, support, networks and momentum.”

Guy Hayler, Co-founder & CCO of Blue Earth

Today, Blue Earth is proud to announce the first investments from the 2025 BE100 Fund, backing three businesses tackling critical global challenges across water, energy and the built environment:

Segura Water

RAFT Energy

Low Carbon Materials

Selected from more than 1,000 applications through the BE100, Europe’s leading pitch competition for purpose-led businesses, these companies represent the next generation of scalable business solutions capable of reshaping industries for people and planet.

The investments mark an important milestone for Blue Earth and the wider BE100 ecosystem, as the platform continues evolving from convening conversations into actively accelerating high-impact businesses through investment, partnerships and commercial support.

Developed in partnership with HAATCH, the BE100 Fund was launched to directly back the most promising BE100 winners with capital and strategic support.

Meet the 2025 BE100 Winners

Segura Water: Water quality, reimagined

Co-investor: RPV

Founded by José Roberto Castro, Segura is building portable heavy metals testing technology designed to democratise access to water quality information.

The company’s rapid testing platform enables detection of contaminants including lead, copper and arsenic in under five minutes, offering a faster and more accessible alternative to traditional lab testing workflows.

The mission is deeply personal. Growing up in Guatemala City, José experienced firsthand the realities of unreliable water access and quality, an experience that ultimately shaped the vision behind Segura.

Now, with support from the BE100 Fund, the company plans to accelerate deployments and deepen validation with utilities and infrastructure stakeholders.

Raft Energy: Turning Waste into Renewable Energy

Co-investor: One Planet Capital

RAFT Energy is helping unlock the untapped potential of biogas infrastructure through biotechnology, chemistry and real-time monitoring.

What began as a home experiment using a homemade anaerobic digester and chicken manure has evolved into a rapidly growing clean energy company now rolling out its technology across commercial AD plants in the UK and Europe.

RAFT’s flagship solution, ActiCH4R™, is already demonstrating significant uplifts in methane yield and operational efficiency, helping operators improve biological stability and generate more renewable energy without new infrastructure.

The company reflects exactly the kind of founder-led innovation BE100 was designed to discover, bold, commercially viable solutions built from deep curiosity, experimentation and purpose.

Low Carbon Materials: Decarbonising the Built Environment

Co-investor: Northstar Ventures

Founded out of Durham University, Low Carbon Materials is tackling one of the world’s hardest industrial challenges: reducing emissions from construction materials.

Its carbon-negative additive, ACLA®, has already been deployed across roads, motorways and infrastructure projects throughout the UK, including work with National Highways and major industry contractors.

The technology permanently removes carbon through biochar and mineralisation pathways while integrating into existing construction workflows, removing barriers to adoption while maintaining performance.

Following a sold-out 2025, Low Carbon Materials is now scaling production to meet growing demand across the sector.

Beyond a Pitch Competition

Now entering its fifth year, BE100 has evolved into one of Europe’s leading platforms for identifying and accelerating purpose-led startups and scaleups.

From more than 1,000 applications, the programme narrows the field down to just three winners, representing the top 0.3% of applicants.

But BE100 was never designed to stop at awareness alone.

Blue Earth’s ambition is to build a genuine pathway between innovation and deployment, helping founders access investment, strategic partnerships, media exposure and commercial growth opportunities through the wider Blue Earth ecosystem.

Over the past four years, Blue Earth has helped facilitate more than £180 million into impact-driven businesses.
